The building is to replace the the old school in Blacks Lane.
Councillor Kevin Gillott, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, joined North Wingfield Primary School's headteacher Simon Dormand and pupils to celebrate the topping out ceremony.

Councillor Kevin Gillott said:"There used to be separate infant and junior schools and the buildings were in very poor condition which would have been too expensive to bring up to modern standards.
"Making sure all Derbyshire children get an education that allows them to grow up to achieve their potential is a priority for us so we're delighted to invest in this purpose-built, state-of-the-art building."
The new single-site school is where the former Deincourt School was located in Chesterfield Road before being demolished.
The building is due to be completed this summer.
