Salford Receives £1.6m Bonus For Renovating Derelict Properties

Salford has received a £1.6 million New Homes Bonus for bringing empty properties back into use.

220 properties were renovated between October 2013 and 2014.

The council, with the help of a £2.5 million grant from government, targeted properties which have lain empty for more than six months, helping to reduce housing waiting lists and provide decent, new homes for tenants.

Councillor Gena Merrett, Assistant Mayor for Housing and Environment at Salford City Council said: "This £1.6 million bonus is wonderful news for the city.

"Bringing homes back to life benefits new tenants but it also benefits the wider community too.

"It brings back a new sense of community and pride to streets that have been blighted with boarded up and vacant properties."
