ISG has been appointed to develop new student accommodation in Cardiff.

The new accommodation, for specialist property developer Fusion Students, is to replace Windsor House, a large 1970s concrete frame office block.

The seven-storey building will include both self-contained studios and twodios, where two students share kitchen facilities. At ground floor level, residents will share a range of communal amenities including a cinema, private student lounge, games room and gym.

ISG will use a series of off-site manufactured components to provide efficiencies in the build programme. Constructed using a first floor concrete transfer slab with a load bearing metal panel system forming the upper floors, the building also incorporates pre-formed bathroom pods, which will be delivered to site in a just in time (JIT) basis and craned into position.

Designed to enhance the local built environment, the new accommodation features a range of architectural finishes to its façade, including brickwork, reconstituted stone, cladding panels and curtain walling. The scheme also includes secure bicycle storage facilities and a landscaped courtyard area, and is scheduled for completion in summer 2016.
