Cardiff Council has secured £4m of funding to restore a Grade 2 listed Victorian mansion.

Insole Court Trust is partnering with the council to carry out the restoration project which has received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery Fund, City of Cardiff Council, Cadw, Trust and Foundations, Corporate and private donations and Community donors.

The Insole Court estate is an important part of the story of South Wales and the changing fortunes of the estate mirror the rise and fall of the mining industry in the area.

Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards, Chairman of the Insole Court Trust, said: "This is the day which many dreamed of but doubted if it would materialise. Years of campaigning by zealot residents to keep Insole Court open developed into this scheme of massive restoration. The finished project will be a landmark not only in Llandaff but in South Wales and throughout the country.

"Combining history with community in such a scale will be a model for many others to follow. This joint venture with the City Council is new and exciting and will be another reason for people to visit Cardiff."
