The government has launched an investigation in the effectiveness of the UK's testing regime, amid concerns about imported Chinese rebar.
Business Secretary Vince Cable confirmed that the government investigation was underway following concerns raised about the quality of large amounts of rebar being imported from China.
According to reports, one in every three tonnes of rebar used in the UK is imported from China. It is understood that batches of imported rebar have failed to comply with British Standards.
