AMEC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Romanian Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Agency ANDR.
The MoU requires AMEC to provide expert technical advice on the safe disposal of radioactive waste from the country’s nuclear plants.
Andy White, Vice President of AMEC's Nuclear Services business, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by the Romanian government to advise on the critically important issue of dealing with nuclear waste materials. AMEC is a world-leader in this field, which we expect will only grow as the world’s first generation of nuclear plants come offline."
The agreement will see ANDR and AMEC work together to develop a national strategy to decommission Romania's nuclear facilities and provide long-term storage for radioactive waste.
