Construction firm Wates is helping over 20 apprentices gain experience following the building of two new developments in South Elmsall.

Wates Living Space has worked alongside its subcontractors and Chevin Housing Association to appoint nine new apprentices aged between 16 and 25. It has also safeguarded the continued on-site education of eight existing construction apprentices and one production management trainee.

Covering a range of specialisms including groundworking, joining, bricklaying and scaffolding, the apprentices will work on the Gordon Place and Frickley Mews developments in South Elmsall.

Wates Living Space has also secured three pre-apprenticeship candidates who are gaining work experience before beginning their formal on-site training.

Once complete, the Gordon Place development will consist of 112 new homes which will be a mix of 44 family homes and a supported housing bungalow. It will also include 67 extra care apartments available for those aged over 50 with assessed care needs and people living with dementia.
