Phase one of the £1.5 billion Meridian Water development has been given the green light by Enfield Borough Council.
The first stage of the works will focus on the 'Meridian Boulevard', described as "the backbone" of the 200 acre Lee Valley regeneration plan.
Construction of the boulevard will is set to begin in April 2015, and once complete will link the eastern and western parts of the scheme with 2,700 homes flanking each side in four and five storey blocks as part of the first phase.
Once complete the redevelopment will have created 8,420 new homes and an estimated 3,000 new jobs, along with improved public transport links and infrastructure.
