Stroma Certification Announces New ESOS Certification Register

Stroma Certification has received approval from the Environment Agency to unveil their ESOS Lead Energy Assessor register and a programme to deliver training and certification for assessors who intend to provide services under the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

ESOS has been introduced by the Government as a means to monitor the energy efficiency and energy usage of organisations. There is a mandatory requirement for businesses to undergo an ESOS audit every four years if they employ at least 250 members of staff or have an annual turnover in excess of €50 million and an annual balance sheet in excess of €43 million. The ESOS audits can only be undertaken by a qualified ESOS Lead Energy Assessor.

Stroma's new ESOS Certification Scheme provides assessors with the opportunity to expand their skillset and help businesses with the implementation of energy-saving measures. Assessors interested in applying to join Stroma Certification’s ESOS Lead Energy Assessor Certification register must have a minimum of two years of professional energy assessment and energy audit experience relevant to the PAS 51215. Stroma is providing existing and new members with a step-by-step application, assessment and training process to ensure assessors receive the support and knowledge required to provide ESOS assessment services to the marketplace.

Applicants are required to undertake a two-day Energy Audit Training which instructs prospective assessors in the BS EN 16247 audit methodology as well as lifecycle cost analysis. Following a practical training element, candidates who have fulfilled all requirements will be added to Stroma’s ESOS Lead Energy Assessor Register once the application documents have been fully assessed.

Stroma Certification has been a key player in the assessor certification industry for more than a decade. Its broad spectrum of Green Deal and Energy Assessment schemes provides certification, training and software to over 50% of the existing assessor market.

Matt Ferguson, Managing Director, said: "Stroma Certification has recognised the potential for current and prospective members to gain additional prospects through ESOS. With ESOS becoming an emerging Government programme we are pleased to offer the industry a clear route to ESOS Lead Energy Assessor Certification. We're proud to have once again adapted to the needs of the industry in becoming authorised to run an ESOS register."
