Work is to begin to resurface a viaduct with upgraded waterproofing at Huntworth, Somerset, on the M5 between junctions 23 and 24.
The work, which begins on 29 September, will involve the replacement of just over half a mile of worn-out steel barriers with a concrete system and the replacement of the expansion joints.
Daytime lane closures on entry and exit slip roads and overnight full closures of the north and south bound carriageways will be in in operation in the area while the work is being carried out. Diversion routes via the A38, from junction 23 southbound and junction 24 northbound, will be clearly signposted.
Highways Agency manager, Andrew Clark, said: "This work is needed to maintain safety and prolong the life of the bridge. Improved drainage will also be installed."
The work is due for completion in March 2015.
