United Utilities has started work to upgrade 3km of water mains in Malpas, Cheshire.
The £500,000 scheme will modernise the current 80-year-old cast iron pipes in the village with plastic versions.
The project will reduce the risk of leaks and bursts in the area.
The mains will be replaced on Chester Road, from the junction of the A41 Whitchurch Road to its junction with High Street. There will also be a short section of work on Tilston Road in Tilston.
The upgrade will take around 20 weeks to complete and motorists should expect some delays while the work takes place.
