Thursday has been set as the deadline for a decision on a possible £3bn merger between Carillion and Balfour Beatty.
According to reports Carillion has been given until Thursday 21 August to make another offer to Balfour Beatty, or, as per takeover rules, it will have to wait for six months.
It is understood that the current deal being offered gives Balfour Beatty 56.5% of the equity, with reports speculating that this could be increased to 58.5% in a new deal.
