Morgan Sindall has won a £6.5m contract to carry out an expansion for Harrow College in Middlesex.

Temporary units will be demolished and a four story enterprise unit will be built. The expansion, which has already started, will include new classrooms with room for a total of 580 students and approximately 140 staff.

The new facility will improve the teaching spaces at the college, making way for new open plan areas for learning. The project team will also be undertaking external landscaping, including hard landscaping of a courtyard for pupils and staff to enjoy.

The building is targeting a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Excellent rating and will feature a number of sustainable elements. This includes natural ventilation, with passive cooling, solar control glazing and low energy internal lighting and air quality indicators. The building will also use photovoltaic panels which will generate electricity by converting solar energy.

New external landscaping has been designed and implemented with the aid of a specialist in animal habitats, to provide shelter for local bat, bird and insect species. The project is due to be complete in August 2015.
