Somerset based Bruges Tozer Architects have won Gold at the Green Apple Built Environment Awards in the national campaign to find Britain's greenest companies, councils and communities.
They competed against more than 500 other nominations and were presented with their Green Apple Award at a glittering presentation ceremony at The Crystal, London, on 30 June 2014. The award is about innovative sustainable solutions.
Practice Principle Richard Swann said: "We are absolutely delighted to have received this accolade. The new Cheese & Grain venue in Frome shows what can be done when community, economic and environmental interests are brought together.
"Working closely with the venue management and Town Council was essential to the success of this project. It brings both sustainable building technology and a sustainable financial base to the well-loved but tired community building. We are also pleased to hear that Frome people love the transformation."
Bruges Tozer Architects have won four major design awards in four years, including the UK Green Building of the Year and RIBA Regional Housing Award for their innovative 'Threshold' Cohousing scheme in Gillingham, Dorset.
Last year, they bagged another Green Apple Award for the Woodgreen Community Store in the New Forest.
The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country's major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries. The awards are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising and promoting environmental best practice. Judges were drawn from the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
