A former Severn Trent office building in the heart of Coventry has been demolished to make way for a £2.6m housing scheme.

Situated on a brownfield site on the corner of Lockhurst Lane and Drake Street, the scheme is being built by Loughborough-based contractor and developer, William Davis Ltd on behalf of Whitefriars Housing.

Comprising 28 new one-, two- and three-bedroom homes and apartments for affordable rent, the project has been designed to address specific housing need and is supported by Coventry City Council.

Matt Colloby, group business development manager at William Davis, said: "With demolition on the disused and unfit-for-purpose building complete, we can now begin construction on these much needed homes for local families.

"We are looking forward to working with Whitefriars Housing to deliver the scheme, which will have a contemporary appearance to help rejuvenate this area of Coventry, and hope this is the start of a long and healthy partnership."

William Davis will adopt a 'fabric first' approach to the construction of the new homes, focusing on improved energy performance via high levels of insulation, air tightness and water saving measures on all taps and bathroom fittings. The development has been designed to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.

The project is due for completion in March 2015.
