Cornwall Environmental Consultants (CEC), the trading arm of Cornwall Wildlife Trust, is delighted to announce its involvement with the new design of Bournemouth Pier Approach.
Proposals for Pier Approach have been submitted for planning consent, which marks the first phase of Bournemouth's ambitious 20 year programme to meet the high expectations of the great British seaside by new generations.
Proposals for Pier Approach focus on water features and landscaping to reconnect the Lower Gardens with the beach for the first time in over 100 years. CEC's team of Landscape Architects act as Lead Designers working with MeiLoci, Hydrock Engineers, Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects, Michael Grubb Studio Lighting Designers and Ustigate water feature specialists to deliver this world class scheme.
Birgit Hontzsch, Principal Landscape Architect and Lead Consultant for CEC said: "Having won a challenging tender process, CEC were commissioned in March 2014 to take forward this prestigious project from conceptual design stages developed by Gillespies to detailed design and implementation, working closely with Bournemouth Borough Council, Mouchel and Willmott Dixon. We are delighted to have been chosen for this project, and look forward to its implementation during autumn and winter of 2014 / 2015."
The Seafront Strategy has been developed over two years, in consultation with the local tourism industry together with seafront groups, landowners, and statutory organisations. As well as providing better facilities for residents and visitors to enjoy, the Seafront Strategy will help to secure and grow Bournemouth's £462m tourist sector which currently employs over 11,000 people.
Andrew Francis, Chairman of Bournemouth Tourism Management Board, commented: "Following the completion of the Waterfront site last year, it is great to see further progression of the Seafront Strategy with this focus on Pier Approach, which must be the most visited area in Bournemouth and a hub for many of our day and stay visitors, as well as locals. I am delighted to see the quality and detail that has been incorporated into the plans for this area."
