A £1.7m extension on Oakdale Junior School in Pool is now complete.
Morgan Sindall carried out the work which included a two storey extension, creating six new state-of-the-art classrooms.
The team constructed a new pedestrian entrance to the school, and installed a lift at the premises.
The existing building was refurbished and the staff room and toilets were also modernised.
The school's external space was also transformed during the project. The project team created a new playground for children to enjoy and a new nature garden, complete with pond and various plants and wildlife.
Oakdale Junior School's extension incorporated a number of sustainable elements, including the installation of 40 photovoltaic panels on the school’s roof. The panels convert sunlight into electricity and will help reduce the school’s carbon emissions. The building also has smartPOD lighting which is energy and cost efficient as well as long lasting. The building is set to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) rating of Very Good.
