The discovery of carbon dioxide seeping into homes built on a former Midlothian coal mine, could lead to their demolition.
An official recommendation has been made that all 64 homes on Gorebridge's Newbyres Crescent estate be demolished, and a special gas membrane be installed at the site. It is understood that the houses would then be rebuilt.
Midlothian Council is expected to make a decision on the recommendation later today.
