The annual report from Vinci UK has revealed that the firm posted pre-tax losses of £33.8m in 2013, following £6.6m losses in 2012.
The report, which concludes 2013 until 31 December, described the amount as "significant trading losses", and says that the "difficult trading environment" is the reason behind the drop.
Overall turnover at the firm was up, finishing at £1.25bn, compared to £1.11bn in 2012.
But pre-tax profit fell to £7.1m in 2013, a drop of 43% on the £13.8m profits in the previous year.
