Work has begun on a new £6m bus station in Castleford, West Yorkshire, for the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Metro.

Due to open in early 2015, Castleford’s new bus station is being constructed by Morgan Sindall and will feature an enclosed waiting area, CCTV coverage, real-time information display and public toilets. Improved pedestrian links between the new bus station and the town’s rail station will also be created to supplement accessibility to the two public transport assets.

The new bus station will go in place of Castleford’s old Albion Street bus station, which closed at the end of January 2014.

Preparatory work has been carried out, including demolition of the existing buildings and archaeological investigations into the site.

The main contract began March 2014 when Morgan Sindall moved onsite to create the glass-walled facility.
