Interserve has published 'SustainAbilities – One Year On', a report outlining the progress made and challenges encountered in the 12 months since the launch of its SustainAbilities plan.
SustainAbilities, launched in March 2013, is a comprehensive, business-wide sustainability plan which sets out ambitious targets for the business to achieve by 2020.
Tim Haywood, Interserve's Group Finance Director and Head of Sustainability, said: "It's encouraging to see the progress that has been made so far in terms of running our business in a more sustainable manner.
"2013 was the base year against which we will measure our future performance and in the first year we are on track to meet our targets.
"However, there are still challenges to be met, including refining the data capture process further, ensuring we extract the right information from all areas of the Group and continuing the work to embed SustainAbilities across all levels of the business."
Looking to the future, the next phase of the SustainAbilities plan introduces additional targets to be achieved by 2016. Environmental targets include a 20% reduction in use of water, a 30% reduction of emissions from business travel, and ensuring that 50% of forest products used, such as timber and palm oil, will be certified sustainable.
