Wates Construction has been appointed by Inception Holdings SARL to deliver the redevelopment of Bolton Market Place to create a new leisure and retail complex.
Work on the scheme, which has been designed by Wren Architects, is expected to start this June following planning permission for the project, which was granted by Bolton Council earlier this month.
The contract will now see Wates create a 30,000 sq ft nine-screen cinema complex atop the shopping centre alongside internal renovations of the existing malls, including the installation of additional escalators and lifts.
Wates will also restore the Victorian vaults under the shopping centre to create new restaurant, bar and retail spaces. Construction is expected to reach completion in spring 2015 following an approximately 44-week build programme.
Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction North West, commented: "Plans to development Bolton Market Place have understandably enjoyed widespread support, evidence that the scheme is set to become an excellent leisure destination for the people of Bolton.
"We are currently preparing to commence construction alongside the fully operational shopping centre and we will remain focused on engaging with local businesses and customers to ensure minimal disruption is caused."
