The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has announced that its deputy chief executive and director of operations Jeff James is to leave the organisation to take up the role of chief executive at The National Archives.

CIH chief executive Grainia Long said: "Jeff joined CIH from The National Archives last summer, and has been instrumental in overseeing important organisational changes. He has done a fantastic job, and while I’m very sorry to see him move on, I understand that a return to The National Archives as chief executive is a terrific opportunity.

"I am delighted to announce that following an internal exercise, Gavin Smart will be appointed as deputy chief executive later this year, along with his existing duties. Gavin has been at CIH as director of policy and practice for more than two years now and has consistently impressed with his knowledge, insight and expertise. I know he will do a brilliant job."

Gavin will take up his new role in July when Jeff leaves and CIH will begin recruitment for the new post of director of operations immediately.
