Planning Permission Approved For New £21m Campus

Planning consultancy Turley has secured planning permission that will allow Wiltshire College to build a new £21m campus in Chippenham.

Permission was given for the 9,100 sq m campus by Wiltshire Council on 12 March.

The new facilities will support growth in vocational training and apprenticeships in engineering, construction and hair and beauty as well as army resettlement.

Ben Allen, Vice Principal for Business Development at Wiltshire College said: "We are delighted with the planning decision. This is a transformational project for both the college and the wider community of Chippenham and we look forward to starting on site."

The campus will be housed in a three-storey building providing a flexible space to meet the demands of students, employers and the community. It will include industry standard workshop space, vocationally tailored space and realistic working environments.

Turley secured a timely planning permission under delegated powers and through negotiation no Section 106 agreement was required.

Wiltshire College has 3,300 full time, 6,000 part time and 800 university students based on four main campuses and four smaller centres.

Work on the new campus is to begin in May this year and is expected to take 16 months to complete, opening to students in September 2015.
