Work has begun on a new development of 40 super energy efficient, affordable homes in Sandiacre.

Developed by emh group, the new properties at Town Street will comprise 40 family homes and bungalows.

They are designed to the highest possible environmental standard, 'Passivhaus', and to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, including Lifetime Homes. Town Street will be built using a "fabric first" approach to achieve an extraordinary level of insulation with the intention of lowering running costs for tenants.

Funded by the Homes & Communities Agency and Erewash Borough Council, it is part of a wider regeneration programme from affordable housing provider emh group across the East Midlands, with neighbouring Hart Lea already benefiting from nine new affordable homes.

The group, which incorporates the former Three Valley Housing, is one of the largest housing providers in the East Midlands, and has been developing in Erewash since 2011.

Chan Kataria, chief executive of emh group, said: "Town Street will help to meet housing need for the people of Erewash. As well as helping to maintain low running costs for our tenants, the incredibly high building specification will mean the homes also have a very low carbon footprint."
