North Lanarkshire Council has appointed affordable housing developer Lovell for a £3 million design-and-build scheme which will provide 30 new council homes in the Blackwood area of Cumbernauld.
Lovell will build 12 two- and three-apartment cottage flats and 18 three-, four- and five-bedroom houses in Cardowan Drive plus new access roads, car parking and landscaping.
Work on the year-long construction programme is set to begin in autumn 2014.
As part of its commitment to making a positive and lasting difference in communities, Lovell will provide four jobs for local people, a construction apprenticeship and four work experience placements through the Cardowan Drive scheme.
Lovell – which is a member of the Council's new-build housing framework – was chosen to undertake the development following a competitive tendering process involving the framework members.
Lovell regional director Alan Taylor said: "This development will provide new, high-quality council homes in Cumbernauld as well as create significant job and training opportunities locally. We're extremely pleased to be continuing our strong working relationship with North Lanarkshire Council and look forward to starting construction of these new homes."
