A £340,000 Highways Agency project to resurface a half-mile section of the A66 west of Keswick in Cumbria will get underway next week.

The week's work will be taking place along a single lane section of the A66 between Braithwaite and Portinscale and both the eastbound and westbound carriageways will benefit from resurfacing as well as new road markings and road studs.

Most of the work will be done between 8pm and 6am each night starting on Monday 24th March and finishing by Sunday 30th March.


As the work is along a single lane section of the A66 temporary traffic lights will be deployed with eastbound and westbound drivers taking it in turns to pass the roadworks. A 40mph speed limit will also be in place past the roadworks for the safety of drivers as well as construction workers.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said: "This project will provide smoother and safer journeys for users of the A66 in this area.

"Doing the work at night when traffic is at its lightest will minimise inconvenience to road users but anyone travelling overnight may be held at the temporary traffic signals for a short time."
