A gateway into Peterborough city centre was reopened on Tuesday after major refurbishment.

Marco Cereste, leader of Peterborough City Council and the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor June Stokes, officially unveiled the new-look St Peter's Arcade.

The arcade has benefited from a £300,000 renovation, which has seen a new floor laid, and the walls and roofing renovated.

Two new retail units have also been created and the refurbishment has also seen eight coats of arms put on proud display to make the arcade more of an attraction to visitors.

The heraldic roundels in St Peter's Arcade display coats of arms which represent the city of Peterborough; the diocese of Peterborough; King Charles II; Katharine of Aragon; Waterville; Fitzwilliam; Orme and Cecil.

The city's coat of arms was granted on 6 September 1960 and derives from the arms of the diocese. It shoes two azure keys in saltire wards upwards and outwards.
