Wates Construction has been awarded a £12.5m contract to build a brand new cinema and leisure complex at intu Potteries Shopping Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.

Appointed by intu, Wates will now deliver the much-anticipated new-build extension to the shopping centre, which will become part of a £20m leisure and catering development.

The contractor is currently preparing to commence construction on the 58,000 sq ft facility, which will comprise a nine-screen cinema complex operated by intu’s leisure anchor tenant, Cineworld.

Construction is due for completion by spring 2015, which will be followed by additional refurbishment and fit-out works ahead of scheduled opening in the summer.
