Construction News Image
Wates Construction has been appointed as the main contractor to deliver the construction of the new Junior School building for Highgate Junior School in North London.

The work will see the contractor build a brand new 4,320 sq m facility for 350 pupils aged 7 to 11 years. Features will comprise teaching spaces and a main school hall to replace the Cholmeley House library and teaching block, which will be demolished as part of the project.

Construction will commence this month and will also include extensive refurbishment and re-roofing works to Highgate Junior School's Ingleholme Building, one of only a few remaining 19th century ‘villa’ houses in Highgate.

Designed by Architype, the scheme will incorporate energy efficiency measures to enhance sustainability. Contributing to an expected BREEAM 'Very Good' rating, features will include photovoltaic panels and a green roof to encourage biodiversity. The building will also follow Passivhaus principles and utilise triple glazing to all windows to improve building insulation.

Completion of the project is scheduled for the end of next year and will also see the contractor deliver external works.
