Shadow Housing Minister Checks Out Regeneration Work In Liverpool

The shadow housing minister has visited Liverpool to witness how local organisations are working together to regenerate the city.

Emma Reynolds MP, and Walton MP Steve Rotheram and Assistant Mayor, Councillor Ann O’Byrne, visited Anfield to see the city's £260 million plans to create new housing and employment opportunities including the refurbishment work that has already been carried out on Tancred Road, the Liverpool Express reports.

She also looked at the council's innovative Homes for a Pound scheme in Granby, and the work going on in Norris Green where a scheme on the former site of the Boot Estate is delivering homes for sale and rent.

She also visited Claremont Gardens at St John's Place, a David Wilson Homes North West development in Kirkdale, which has been built on the site of the former Easby estate.

Assistant Mayor and Cabinet member for housing, Councillor Ann O’Byrne, said: "Housing is one of our key priorities and we were delighted to show the shadow housing minister some of the innovative work that we are doing to improve areas which have been neglected for far too long.

"We also talked through some of the challenges we face, such as in the Welsh Streets where residents who want the area regenerated are frustrated about delays caused by the public inquiry.

"It's vital for Liverpool that we provide the type of affordable homes that people want and tackle the problem of empty properties that are no longer fit for purpose, by bringing empty homes back into use where it’s appropriate."

Emma Reynolds said: "It is fantastic to see the work taking place in our towns and cities to regenerate previously disadvantaged areas. I was pleased to see the positive impact re-development has had on the local community in Kirkdale."
