HSE To Carry Out Inspections At Liverpool Site

Construction union UCATT have welcomed the announcement that the Health and Safety Executive is to conduct inspections on the Alder Hey Hospital site in Liverpool.

The HSE's decision to inspect comes a week after UCATT raised safety concerns about the construction of the site.

Steve Murphy, General Secretary of UCATT, said: "We welcome the HSE's decision to investigate our safety concerns at Alder Hey. However this is retrospective action and we want to prevent accidents occurring in the first place. To achieve this it is vital that workers are engaged in their own safety with the appointment of site based UCATT health and safety reps."

UCATT have been attempting to undertake meaningful dialogue with Laing O'Rourke the principal contractor at Alder Hey hospital for some sometime without success.
