The Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation into a series of accidents at the construction site of the new Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Merseyside.
It is understood that builders' union Ucatt (Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians) has raised concerns over work at the site, leading to the HSE to begin its investigations.
Liverpool's mayor Joe Anderson and MP Stephen Twigg have also raised concerns with contractors Laing O'Rourke, who are reported to have said that workplace safety was an "overriding" priority.
Five incidents, including one in which a worker suffered a crushed pelvis, are being investigated.
