A project to extend a Peterborough secondary school has won Peterborough City Council and its construction partner a national award.
The city council and Kier picked up the LHC Framework Award after being nominated for the extension of Hampton College.
The city council contracted Kier to extend the college to provide a gym, sixth form study area and classrooms for lessons including science, ICT and design and technology.
The extension, which cost £7m, allowed the secondary school to increase from four forms of entry to seven, creating an additional 450 places.
The city council and Kier won the award for the affordable price of the scheme and the time it took to deliver the extension which was completed ahead of time.
Councillor John Holdich, Cabinet Member for Eduation, Skills and University, said: "It's always nice to get a pat on the back but this award is particularly pleasing as we worked closely with Kier to deliver this project in very quick time and on a tight budget.
"The extension has transformed Hampton College and enabled it to provide secondary education for even more children in the Hamptons which is fantastic.
"We have invested more than £200 million in secondary education in Peterborough in the past six years and it is already making a difference as you can see with last year's GCSE results which were the sixth most improved in the country.
"I'd also like to pay tribute to Kier who pulled out all the stops to deliver an extension which was both affordable and attractive in less than a year."
