Planning Permission Granted For Over-Site Development At Paddington Station

Crossrail's plans for a major over-site development at Paddington station have moved ahead after Westminster City Council's Planning Committee resolved to grant planning permission for the scheme.

The Committee resolved to grant planning permission for the 320,000 sq ft development located at the junction of Bishop's Bridge Road and the Grand Union Canal, with the new London Underground Hammersmith & City line station to the south. The development will comprise 15 storeys of high-quality office space with the retail and office entrance at canal level.

Crossrail intends to appoint development partners at Paddington. The building has been carefully designed to incorporate access to Crossrail, National Rail and Hammersmith & City line services at Paddington. The plans also provide for considerable public realm improvements at the front of the new Tube station and along to London Street and St Mary’s Hospital, as well as providing a new public lift and staircase from the canal towpath up to Bishop's Bridge Road.

Ian Lindsay, Crossrail Land and Property Director said: "Securing planning permission for this major new commercial development is an important step forwards in the continued transformation of Paddington. Crossrail is the first UK rail project to integrate new and improved rail infrastructure with high-quality over-site development and public realm improvements. This development will be a huge boost to regeneration in the area and a further phase in the renaissance of Paddington as a major commercial location."
