Balfour Beatty recently staged a 'Meet The Buyer' event in Elgin for its local suppliers in the region.
The company's Elgin-based construction business, which operates across the north of Scotland, is expanding its workload in the Moray area. Last year Balfour Beatty spent more than £12m in the area and the company is keen to get to know its local supply chain better. A number of companies representing the wide ranging market attended the event which comes after Balfour Beatty recently launched a voluntary 'Supply Chain Finance Programme' that provides quicker and cheaper access to funding to its supply chain partners.
Balfour Beatty also co-funds the Supply Chain Sustainability School which was set up in 2012 and is run through Action Sustainability, to raise awareness of areas ranging from carbon and waste reduction, proactive planning and the implementation of intelligent building methods such as Building Information Modelling. The company's strong involvement with the School reflects its commitment to a sustainable supply chain which is essential to the long-term viability of the industry.
George Hood, Delivery Unit Managing Director for Balfour Beatty, said: "We are delighted with the turnout and interest shown at this event. We have a strong forward order book which will offer good opportunities to the local supply chain. We are committed to using local businesses and believe in establishing strong links with them.
"Balfour Beatty was also the first company in our sector to sign up to the government initiative for prompt payment, which encourages best practice between customers and suppliers. Our event in Elgin provides a platform to underpin this initiative."
