Go-Ahead For New Homes At Chobham Manor

Construction News Image
Developers have been given the green light to begin building the first new homes at Chobham Manor, an exciting new district for Stratford, east London, and the first new neighbourhood to be built on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The London Legacy Development Corporation and Chobham Manor LLP – a joint venture between leading national homebuilder Taylor Wimpey and L&Q, one of London’s largest residential developers – had the development’s Reserved Matters Planning Application containing details of the first phase of 259 homes approved.

Located in the north of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park between East Village and Lee Valley VeloPark, Chobham Manor will feature a mix of stylish one to five-bedroom apartments and houses which are expected to go on sale in late spring, with residents moving in by late 2015.

In E20, London's newest postcode, work will start very shortly on the first phase of the vibrant new neighbourhood which will also feature tree-lined avenues, state-of-the-art architecture and relaxing green landscaped areas.

Chobham Manor has been designed for a wide-range of Londoners who want to build their lives in an exciting new community. Seventy-five per cent (194) of the 259 homes will be family homes with three or more bedrooms. Twenty-eight per cent of homes across the whole Chobham Manor development will be affordable homes with the first phase delivering 31 per cent (79) of this type of property, including social rented, affordable rented and intermediate housing.

The first phase of building will also include retail space, play areas and communal gardens, and all homes have been designed to a Lifetime Homes standard with wheelchair adaptable and multi-generation homes both available, the latter designed to comfortably accommodate extended families.

All homes with private parking will be provided with electric vehicle charging points, extra on-street points will be found throughout the neighbourhood and smart meters will be installed within all homes to provide vital feedback to residents on their energy usage. The homes at Chobham Manor will also be built to the latest standards of environmental sustainability, with selected properties achieving a zero-carbon rating.

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: "We are thrilled that the planning permission to start building the first phase of homes at Chobham Manor has been given the go-ahead. The prospect of the first residents of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park moving in as early as 2015 is an exciting one and together with the opening of the south of the Park on 5 April and the vision of a new cultural and educational quarter in development, we are firmly on track to deliver a new heart for east London."
