Balfour Beatty has completed a £2.4m winter ward at Basildon University Hospital in Essex for the Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The new 28-bed ward is designed to increase capacity for emergency patients during the winter period and also includes a nurses' station and bathrooms.
Balfour Beatty used modular construction to deliver this ProCure 21+ National Framework project. The building was designed and manufactured in eight weeks and includes 33 modular units. It then took one further week for the modular building components to be placed on site by crane, significantly reducing the overall project programme.
Through the ProCure 21+ National Framework, Balfour Beatty has also delivered development works on the Accident and Emergency Department, Fracture Clinic and the Endoscopy Department at the hospital.
