Morgan Sindall And Lovell Chosen To Build New Homes

Southwark Council has appointed construction company Morgan Sindall to deliver four affordable housing schemes worth £20 million in the south-east London borough.

More than 90 new homes are set to be built in Southwark by Morgan Sindall's sister company housing solutions specialist Lovell.

Awarded to Morgan Sindall through the iESE SEaL (South East and London) framework, the developments will create:

• 67 new homes – a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom maisonettes – at Sumner Road for social rent and shared ownership

• 19 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for social rent and a small commercial unit at Long Lane, on land formerly occupied by a housing office

• Eight family houses for social rent at Nunhead Green on the site of the former Nunhead Lane community centre. The scheme will also include the provision of a new community facility on a neighbouring site

• A hostel in Old Kent Road with accommodation for 28 people

Subject to planning permission, construction work on the new housing is expected to start in spring 2014 with completion scheduled for early 2016. All homes will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, making them 44 per cent more energy efficient than properties built to current Building Regulations.
