Seddon has been chosen by the Sanctuary Group to build a major housing regeneration scheme worth £14 million in Stoke-on-Trent.
Construction work has just begun on the project: an 80-flat extra care housing development for over-55s for rent or shared ownership and 28 new-build two-, three- and four-bedroom houses for rent. The scheme is designed by PRP Architects.
The development is part of the 2011-15 Affordable Homes Programme and will receive nearly £2.5 million investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). Sanctuary has appointed its framework partner Seddon as the contractor for the scheme which is expected to complete in March 2015.
Part of a major redevelopment of the Slater Street area of Middleport, Stoke-on-Trent, the project will create significant job and training opportunities for the area. At least half the workers on site will live within ten miles of the development and a number of apprenticeships will be created, giving young people the chance to learn their trade working on the developments.
The extra care three-storey housing complex will offer older residents the chance to live independently with support available if needed. Its communal facilities will include a gym, hair salon and shop.
The new housing development will also create energy-efficient new affordable homes for rent through Sanctuary.
The development has been awarded to Seddon through its four-year partnership with Sanctuary which will deliver 700 new-build homes across the Midlands.
