Southwark Council has signed a £110m housing repairs contract with Mears Ltd.

The repairs and maintenance contract for the south of the borough was awarded to Mears Ltd for five years, with the option to extend for a further five years, subject to performance.

Mears had previously been appointed as interim contractors from last October following the termination of the repairs and maintenance contract with Morrison Facilities Service Limited.

During the procurement process, quality was given more priority than cost, with a weighting of 70:30 in the procurement process, demonstrating the council's commitment to driving up standards.

Councillor Ian Wingfield, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Southwark Council is committed to improving customer satisfaction with our repairs service. The signing of this contract is a significant step towards what we want to achieve, delivering a first class service to residents.

"We know how important it is to get repairs right first time. During their time as interim contractor, Mears has demonstrated that they share our ambitions, and are the right choice for this contract. We are delighted to shake hands on the contract and get down to the business of providing a great service to residents."

Works covered by the contract include responsive repairs, repairs to empty properties and provision of the out of hours emergency service.

The areas covered by the contract are Camberwell, Peckham, Peckham Rye, Nunhead and Dulwich, as well as repairs to temporary accommodation borough-wide.
