Bretton is the latest area of Peterborough City to be designated as a neighbourhood area, enabling local residents to play a greater part in developments that take place in their community.
The application from Bretton Parish Council was approved by Peterborough City Council's Planning and Environmental Protection Committee.
The newly designated neighbourhood area encompasses the whole of the parish of Bretton. Designation of the area means that Bretton Parish Council can now proceed with the preparation of a neighbourhood development plan or neighbourhood development order - a power introduced under the Localism Act 2011.
A neighbourhood plan can establish general planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood, including where additional new homes and offices should be built and what they should look like.
The plan would then be considered alongside Peterborough's Local Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework when the city council is deciding planning applications within the neighbourhood area to which it applies.
