Carillion has announced its new Chief Sustainability Officer appointment as David Picton.
David joins Carillion with a broad range of experience in leading operational, strategic and programme management roles.
In the first half of his career, David spent 20 years working on operations based around the world as a Wing Commander in the RAF. Since then much of his industry experience has been gained in director positions with Motorola and most recently as operations director for Sky.
Having joined Carillion in February 2012 to lead the supply chain development programme, David has been focused on supplier relationships, lean processes, business intelligence, cost reduction and operational delivery improvement.
Most recently, David was instrumental in signing Carillion up as a Funding Partner with Supply Chain Sustainability School.
The new role will see David leading Carillion's sustainability agenda, working closely with project and contract teams across the company to build on the company's existing reputation as a leading sustainability business with a pioneering spirit.
Key to achieving this will be to listen, learn and drive forward activities that continue to push Carillion forward in its commitment to acting responsibly.
David commented: "Sustainability can often be pigeon-holed as the 'environmental' or 'green agenda', which is of course important, but the true aims are about so much more. Community engagement, ethical and collaborative trading, engagement and stable profitability all complete the mix and are crucial elements to master for any business to be sustainable and ultimately, successful."
