BAM Construction has been named as contractor of the year in the Constructing Excellence awards for the Yorkshire and Humber regions.

The awards were presented at the Marriott Hotel, Leeds.

The integrated design, construction and engineering company swept the board winning the top award for its use of technology (BIM - building information modelling) and project of the year – both for its pioneering approach to the build of Leeds Arena.

BAM Nuttall and Morgan Sindall shared the top spot for another critical category – health and safety – for their joint venture on the M62 managed motorway scheme. Constructing Excellence exists to improve the industries performance by driving the change agenda and is a cross sector organisation.

James Wimpenny, Director of BAM Construction for the North East, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that we've stood out so strongly. We have a creative and industrious team here in Leeds and we bring a lot of thought and innovation to how we design and construct buildings.

"Our success at Leeds Arena showcases our ability to build complex, technical structures, but the health and safety award also shows how BAM looks after the detail and encourage good attitudes from our people on every project.

"No matter how complex or straightforward it is, every office, leisure centre, school, college, university, industrial project and medical facility we deliver has the same thought and care behind it, as well as for the people around it who use them."
