International infrastructure and business services group Mouchel has won a prestigious seven-year contract for highways-related services with Norfolk County Council.
Subject to performance targets being achieved, the contract could be extended annually for up to a maximum overall term of 12 years.
The contract, won by the company's Infrastructure Services' division covers highways, environmental, transport and development professional services and is worth up to £5 million annually depending on the extent of support required. Mobilisation starts from November with Mouchel working alongside the in-house team to provide the service from the start of next April.
Part of the challenge has to be the scale of the operation – Norfolk's highways network includes 9,800km of local road, 4,100km of footways, 50,000 streetlights, 2,000 bridges and other structures, and 375 signal-controlled junctions and crossings.
With some 40 percent of Norfolk's 860,000 population living in only four urban areas, the local road network is absolutely vital to residents and businesses.
Managing Director, Mouchel Infrastructure Services, David Virden, said: "We are delighted that Norfolk County Council has chosen Mouchel to work with them for this long-term partnership contract. The award emphasises the strength we have in aligning our services with the needs of our clients.
"Our in-depth strength was important – we are offering a strong locally-based core team supplemented by a vast range of technical, environmental and project expertise focused on delivering the Council's objectives."
