Balfour Beatty has provided eleven young unemployed Londoners with a step up on the career ladder through the Prince’s Trust's 'Get into' construction programme.
'Get into' provides young disadvantaged people with the skills and confidence they need to stand a good chance of getting a job in the industry of their choice through on-the-job training in areas such as bricklaying, carpentry and steel erection. The course results in industry standard qualifications, such as a CSCS card, as well as ongoing mentoring and apprenticeship opportunities at Balfour Beatty and with its supply chain partners.
The nine-week placements were delivered by Balfour Beatty on the Southwark ‘Schools for the Future’ scheme, which the company is currently engaged in.
At a celebration ceremony, those graduating were congratulated on their achievements and presented with their certificates at Balfour Beatty's London Victoria office by Mark Peters, Head of Secretariat, and Trustee of the Balfour Beatty Charitable Trust, said: "It is wonderful to see another group of young people successfully complete the programme. Balfour Beatty has supported more than 200 young people across the UK through work placements on 'Get into' since 2009. This is the fourth of eighteen courses planned and we remain absolutely committed to sharing our knowledge and expertise with young people to help them get into work and develop their careers."
