Balfour Beatty has welcomed over 300 members of the public onto its sites for the second ever 'Open Doors' weekend which took place on Friday and Saturday last week.

Balfour Beatty had 12 sites participating in the initiative, which is run in partnership with the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), to showcase the construction industry by offering the public a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of working sites.

Open Doors also aims to demonstrate the diverse and exciting range of career opportunities that construction has to offer, and the wide range of skills that need to come together to make buildings and infrastructure part of our everyday lives.

Sites open to the public over the weekend included the new Accident and Emergency Department at Northwick Park Hospital, student accommodation for the University of Edinburgh, the M25 Managed Motorway scheme and Exeter Library in Devon.

Nicholas Pollard, Chief Executive Officer, Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK, said: "Open Doors was a great opportunity for us to engage with our neighbours and to demonstrate the vital role construction plays in helping to make communities better places to live and work. It's also a chance to attract young people into our industry and I'm delighted that so many have visited us this year so that we have been able to show them the fantastic opportunities available to them.
