A new campaign designed to help residents reduce, reuse and recycle more of their waste is being launched in North Somerset during September.
The Don't Waste It! campaign highlights the financial costs of throwing away waste and urges all residents to do their bit and keep recycling as much as possible.
The recycling rate in North Somerset was 59% last year, making it one of the best performing councils in the country. Since 2005, the amount of waste sent to landfill has reduced by two-thirds, which has saved council tax payers more than £11m in landfill tax alone.
However, recent figures show a dip in the recycling rate and an increase in kerbside waste being put out for collection.
The Don't Waste It! campaign encourages residents to get involved by coming along to a series of roadshows and WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) amnesty events (where people can bring along their old or unwanted kettles, toasters, TVs, computers or hairdryers) over the next few months.
More than 40 WEEE amnesty and roadshow events will take place during September and October. Waste advisers will also be out and about giving advice and information about ways to reduce waste, re-use and recycle more.
