Kier Partnership Homes has started work on a scheme intended to breathe new life into a previously run-down area in Solihull.

The development of 24 affordable homes is the biggest ever new housing project for client Solihull Community Housing (SCH), which manages council housing across the borough on behalf of Solihull Council.

The site, at Gilson Way in Kingshurst, has stood empty for several years and has regularly been the target of vandals.

However, following talks with Kier Partnership Homes, the circa £3.5m building project is now under way thanks to grant funding through the Homes and Communities Agency's Affordable Homes Programme.

Steve Boyd, chief executive of SCH, which manages council housing across the borough on behalf of Solihull Council, said: "We are delighted to be helping to create new homes in an area short of modern affordable properties.

"This is a significant development that is going to help give the whole area a lift and provide housing that local people will want to live in."

The scheme at Gilson Way will provide a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes. They will be delivered to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, meaning the residents will benefit from reduced running costs for their new homes.
