Balfour Beatty joined a UK-wide industry effort in the North East to boost recognition of the role the construction industry plays in stimulating the economy.
The event, held at Newcastle's Assembly Rooms, is part of a national effort by the UK Contractors Group (UKCG) to make the case for investing in local economies through construction as part of a campaign called 'Creating Britain's Future'.
Balfour Beatty is working for customers across the North East to deliver vital infrastructure schemes such as Cramlington Hospital, the Newcaflex Offshore project, the Morpeth Flood Alleviation Scheme, the mechanical and electrical refit of the iconic Eldon Square Shopping Centre in Newcastle, and designing and managing a decentralised energy strategy for Newcastle and Gateshead.
Research from the UKCG has recently found that investment in construction is one of the most effective ways to stimulate the economy, generating local jobs and kick-starting growth. Construction is a jobs creator and employs 3.1 million people, which represents 10.5% of the UK workforce.
